Science story - carbon dioxide

Here's a question for you: when is putting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere a good thing? (duration: 12?35?)

Yes, scientists in NZ are doing research on using volcanic bugs to convert carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide.

Because they claim "CO2 is less of a greenhouse gas than CO".

This could either be very useful for NZ, for mitigating "agricultural greenhouse gas emissions", or this could be one of the funniest bits of completely stupid pointless science ever.

My question is:

What your evidence for CO2 being a greenhouse gas, and what is your contrary evidence?
